What is the colortest A – Agouti in the cat ?
The wild type allele is the allele A. This A allele is dominant to a allele. The A allele produce alternating bands of yellow and black color, ending with black tips in each individual hair. This is the similar coat color of a wild mouse or rabbit. This is also called “ticking”.
- A/A– agouti banded hair – hair with ticking
- A/a– agouti banded hair – individuals give the non-agouti allele to their descendants
- a/a– uniform coat colour (solid colored)
The genotypes A/A and A/a enables the pattern of cat fur : ticked tabby, spotted tabby, mackerel tabby and blocked tabby. With the a/a genotypes the cat fur pattern does not appears.
