The Colortest B in cat : chocolate and cinnamon

The locus B is responsible of the amount of black in the cat coat color. The black pigment is the eumelanin. This locus B is located in the TYRP1 gene (tyrosinase-related protein-1). The mutation of this gene in the cat are responsible of the brown and cinnamon coat color. The B (Black) is dominant to b (brown) which is dominant to bl (cinnamon) B > b > bl.

Combination of the locus B and D

The locus B and D are closely related. These two tests are often done together. The colortest D brings a dilution of the basic color colortest B. Thus, thanks to colortest D, the black of the B turns into blue, chocolate turns into lilac and the cinnamon is transformed into fawn.
