How to collect horse manes ?

All genetics tests and colortests on horse can be done using few manes

Genimal Biotechnologies recommends that you use manes for all your DNA tests in genetic disease or colortest. Indeed, this type of sampling is painless for the animal and very easy to perform.

Carries out the sampling

You must provide around 10 manes per horse whatever the number of DNA tests.
When you take the manes, make sure to have the bulb at the end of the hair because the DNA is recovered on these bulbs. On the dark manes, the bulb is often a whitish part of a few millimeters. Sometimes on fine and thin manes, the bulb makes a 90 degree angle.
The best method of removing manes is to isolate a mane one by one. Take the mane at its base against the horse’s skin. Then pull slowly and gently on the horsehair to tear it off.

Store the manes

Then put the manes in a sampling kit. You must use either a plain paper envelope or a plastic bag, like a freezer bag.
